SIPA has scholarships? How to find funding while applying to SIPA and during your time at SIPA??
One of the most asked questions the admissions team gets is “how do I get a scholarship? Are they fully-funded? And where do I find them?”
These are all great questions! Unlocking the key to obtaining scholarships here at SIPA is one of the greatest mysteries that many SIPA students have yet to uncover themselves. To answer your question, your respective financial aid/scholarship amount will be listed within your official letter of acceptance into SIPA and your given amount is based on financial need, academic merit, and available funding at that time.
It is also extremely important to note that you must select that you would like to be considered for scholarships in the ‘Financing Your Degree’ section of the application by the fellowship deadline of December 20th. So, in that regard, there is not much you can do initially besides submit the strongest application possible, to complete the fellowships that you are applicable for within the application, and to showcase your skillsets, backgrounds, and experience within the complete application through your personal statements and listed experiences.
If you are wondering, “what are the fellowships/scholarships within the application”, well here a a few that are available within the admission’s application that incoming students can apply to:
- The Public Service Scholarship (provides up to 65% tuition scholarship)
- The Kent Global Leadership Fellowship
- The Leamann Fellowship (can be renewed for a second-year).
I highly suggest that you apply to all fellowship that you meet the requirements for within the application for the highest chance of funding support.
Once you are admitted into SIPA, there are also additional ways to secure supplementary funding support such as accessing different external scholarships using the “iGrad” platform and by applying to the internal SIPA fellowships. Some fellowship and regional focus opportunities within SIPA include the Harriman Institute for Russian, Eurasian, and Eastern European studies, the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, and the International Fellows Program.
Moreover, if you are admitted to SIPA, as an enrolled SIPA student you will have access to our personal SIPA job portal site where you can apply to current research assistantships, work study roles-if you have qualified for work study, and part-time jobs & internships. So, while the cost of attendance may seem steep, just know that there are sources of funding out there! Just start your search early and do not ignore those external scholarships!
