After Action Report for C40 World Mayors Summit — A Pathway for Action and Impact

This project identified opportunities for Buenos Aires to build on its existing climate work in the context of city-led climate action. The city hosted the World Mayors Summit in October 2022, the flagship event of an organization of almost 100 cities committed to climate action known as the C40. Buenos Aires has distinguished itself for its deep commitment to climate action amid difficult political and economic conditions common to the region and the Global South. Through desk research, stakeholder interviews, and an exhaustive field visit, the team identified the city’s best practices. The team particularly noted the city’s commitment to economic and social inclusion, preservation of historical memory, and education as integral parts of its climate initiatives. Access to financing and regional cooperation stood out as areas requiring further work. Ultimately, the team prepared nine recommendations to improve Buenos Aires’s global profile, domestic capacity-building ability, and legacy within C40.
