Faculty Biography
Mimi Corcoran is an accomplished nonprofit leader whose career spans more than 25 years of advancing education, mental and behavioral health, and poverty alleviation. She most recently served as Executive Director of the Child Mind Institute (CMI), where she led the organization through a period of significant growth, strengthening clinical services, research, and public education to transform the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and behavioral disorders. At CMI, she also developed and launched Fort Health, an innovative telehealth company designed to democratize access to youth mental health care and generate long-term revenue for the Institute.
At the Open Society Foundations, she held several leadership roles. As Budget Director, she oversaw finances across 40 foundations worldwide and developed systems to strengthen management and accountability. She then served as Director of Special Projects, where she helped launch the After-School Corporation (TASC) with a $125 million challenge grant to expand access to high-quality afterschool programming. Later, as Director of the Special Fund for Poverty Alleviation, she designed and led a $170 million initiative responding to the Great Recession. The fund invested in programs to improve access to public benefits, broaden educational opportunities, and expand employment options for low-income families, securing $600 million in matching resources and reaching more than 5 million individuals nationwide. Earlier in her career, as Executive Director of the Beginning with Children Foundation, she created and led two charter schools and helped establish the New York City Charter School Center in partnership with the Robertson Foundation and Robin Hood Foundation, securing $40 million to launch the initiative and expand high-quality education opportunities for underserved communities.
Today, Mimi advises nonprofits, foundations, and mission-driven companies on strategy, operations, and leadership during moments of transition and growth. She has also been appointed the next CEO of Vista Life Innovations, a Connecticut-based nonprofit supporting individuals with disabilities. In addition, she contributes her expertise as a board member of The Hunt Institute and The Center for Discovery, and as an advisor to StoryMii.
Mimi earned her Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Finance from New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service and her Bachelor of Arts in English from Yale University, where she was captain of the gymnastics team.
Mimi’s work is informed by her lived experience as the mother of four adult sons, including one with complex disabilities, grounding her commitment to building systems of support that allow all people to thrive.
