Personal Details
Rebecca Murphy is an Adjunct Associate Research Scholar in the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies (SIWPS) of Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) where her research focuses on diplomacy and security. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Columbia University where she teaches international politics and contemporary diplomacy. In addition, she continues to work for a U.S.-based FINTECH firm where she leads the Geostrategic Affairs and Crisis Management teams.
Her scholarly research on military security and diplomatic affairs in the High North/Arctic Region is the subject of a forthcoming article and book manuscript. She recently completed a project with NATO Allied Command Transformation on the information environment and is expanding on this study to examine the conduct of diplomacy in an era of disinformation.
Murphy previously served the Government of Canada before joining Columbia University as a faculty member in 2012, at which time she also entered the private sector.
She received her B.A. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Toronto, and received her Ph.D. in International Relations from Columbia University. She previously served the Government of Canada.
