Focus Areas: cybersecurity and AI.

Steve Sparkes was appointed Senior Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer at TD Bank in April 2025. He is responsible for technology risk and cybersecurity for TD Group, managing a team of 1,500 professionals.

Steve joined TD in April 2025 with 40 years of experience in leadership roles in technology infrastructure, application development, IT and operational Risk, and Cybersecurity. Prior to TD, he was Executive Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer and head of Enterprise Platforms and Technology Risk at Scotiabank from 2021 - 2025. 

Previously Steve has held positions of Managing Director and Head of Cybersecurity Technology at Bank of America, as well as Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, where he was CTO for Investment Banking, CIO of Technology and Information Risk, and Head of the Technology and Data Philanthropy Committee. 

Steve is a strong advocate of the necessity of cybersecurity and resilience across the industry and has delivered numerous presentations on topics such as ethical AI and emerging technological threats. He serves on the executive board of FS-ISAC, a member-driven, not-for-profit organization that advances cybersecurity and resilience in the global financial system, as well as being active in the Canadian cyber community.

He is currently advising a SIPA Capstone project this academic year.
