Mine Action’s Role in Humanitarian Responses and Peace Operations
Semester
The 2010 Columbia University Capstone Study has been commissioned by UNMAS to provide comparative knowledge on the UN and the approaches, priorities and concepts related to peace operations and humanitarian assistance taken by seven of its bilateral donors, and how mine action fits into those donors’ funding agendas.
For this purpose, the 2010 Capstone Project aims to produce a study that:
-
Reviews the UN’s doctrine and operational concepts of peace operations and humanitarian assistance;
-
Examines Member States’ doctrines and foreign policy statements on peace operations and humanitarian assistance, and how these guide their funding decisions;
-
Explores the linkages between the UN and Member States’ understanding of peace operations and humanitarian assistance; and
-
Describes how mine action relates to these concepts, making recommendations for the kind of language UNMAS should use to secure greater support from donors.
