Tragic loss of an incoming SIPA student
Dear SIPA Community,
I am heartbroken to share that Hongzhuo Xie, an incoming student from Beijing China, who was set to begin her Master of International Affairs at SIPA this fall, died in the tragic bus accident near Buffalo on Friday, August 22. Her life, full of promise and ambition, was cut short far too soon. Her dreams of joining our SIPA community and pursuing a life of purpose in international security and diplomacy will remain an enduring part of her legacy.
To honor her memory, a community vigil will be held on Wednesday, September 3, at 5pm on campus (location to be announced). Students, faculty, staff, and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, reflection, and solidarity. Support resources from Counseling and Psychological Services, the Office of Religious Life, ISSO, and SIPA Student Affairs will be present to offer assistance to any community member who needs it.
We have been in close touch with her family and are offering them our deepest condolences and support. I know that many in our community are grieving this painful loss. Below, I have included information about counseling and other resources for anyone who may need support during this difficult time.
My thoughts and sympathies are with her family, friends, and all who have been impacted by this tragedy. May we find comfort in one another as we mourn together.
Best,
Keren Yarhi-Milo
