Clean Energy Manufacturing in Southeast Asia

Spring 2026

The International Energy Agency (IEA) is a leading multilateral institution that provides authoritative data, policy analysis, and global cooperation on energy security, clean energy technologies, and climate solutions. As Southeast Asia becomes an increasingly important hub for global industry and trade, the region is also emerging as a key player in clean energy technology manufacturing—shaping global supply chains for solar PV, batteries, EV components, heat pumps, and other technologies essential to the energy transition. Rapid industrial growth, shifting trade dynamics, evolving industrial strategies, and growing regional demand are reshaping where and how clean energy technologies are produced, creating both opportunities and competitive pressures across markets.

This project will help the IEA assess major trends in clean energy manufacturing across Southeast Asia by identifying which technologies and countries are driving growth and what factors—policy incentives, labor markets, supply chain partners, trade structures, financing mechanisms, and industrial strategies—are enabling that expansion. The Capstone team will map current and emerging manufacturing activities, analyze demand projections, and evaluate key determinants of competitiveness. The final deliverable will be a detailed slide-based report that synthesizes market trends, policy environments, and stakeholder insights to provide the IEA with a clear picture of Southeast Asia’s evolving role in global clean energy supply chains. Quantitative analysis and technical annexes will support recommendations that can inform future IEA assessments and international policy discussions.
