The Conference Board Journal of Corporate Governance and Risk Oversight
At the request of the Conference Board Corporate Governance Center, a team of students from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (the Team) undertook a feasibility study for the publication of a new journal by the Conference Board: the Journal of Corporate Governance and Risk Oversight. The proposed Journal would be both academically rigorous and practical for executives, board members, and other professionals, and would cover a wide variety of issues in risk management as it applies to corporate governance. The Team identified both direct and indirect publishing competitors, including both print media and online resources. The Team also identified trends in the publishing industry and the Internet.
The Team developed several options for publication and distribution of the proposed Journal. These include both an online-only publication and a combination web and print version The Team also considered different frequencies of publication, and the costs and staffing needs that would be associated with them. While the Journal will not feature any advertising, the Team considered other potential revenue streams, including subscriptions and sponsorships. With these considerations in mind, the Team recommends publishing the Journal in print on a quarterly basis, and raising money through subscription fees and corporate sponsorships.
