Documenting the Experiences of Municipal Women’s Offices in Guatemala

IUMUSAC is the women’s institute of Guatemala’s national university, the University of San Carlos in Guatemala City.  Their mission is to advise, direct, promote, coordinate, articulate and execute programs and projects related to research and teaching in support of women’s development and advancement. Municipal Women’s Offices (MWOs) have been established in recent years by the mayors and city councils of various municipalities in collaboration with women’s groups and institutions seeking to advance women’s rights to respond to the demands, interests and needs of women.  The objective of the workshop was to strengthen the institutionalization of the MWOs as a mechanism for women’s advancement at the municipal level in Guatemala.
