Spring 2012

Women and girls in Bangladesh are discriminated against and disempowered because of their gender. Though some efforts have been made to promote gender equality in the country, including quotas for women’s political representation, girls and women still face major challenges in the areas of education, mobility, the workforce, and the family. In an effort to improve gender equality and empower women, The Hunger Project has sought to enable its volunteers in Bangladesh to confront and change gender-related attitudes and behaviors. The SIPA Team worked to evaluate the impact of THP Bangladesh’s programs on gender equality and women’s empowerment in the communities where THP operates and to provide THP’s Global Office and THP Bangladesh with new monitoring and evaluation tools.
