Expansion of a Geospatial Platform for Tracking the Crude Oil Global Supply Chain to Include Geopolitics into the Model Framework

Semester

Fall 2014

Thomson Reuters has tasked the Capstone team to develop a framework on the drivers and interaction that geopolitics plays on the physical energy supply chain. Students will focus on the drivers and impact that geopolitics plays on the global crude oil markets —specifically considering evolving policies and regulation, expansion of oil supply through the use of new technology, and the geopolitical risk factors that drive supply.

A key task will be to understand the interaction that geopolitics has on the oil markets in order to capture what needs to be incorporated into the geospatial model.

Students will assess the feasibility of integrating data sources into a GIS Platform and provide actionable recommendations to Thomson Reuters on the development of such a platform. This will also include internal sources, such as the Thomson Reuters's editorial team.
