Fostering Energy Efficiency in Kazakhstan's Industrial Sector
Kazakhstan is a large, sparsely populated nation, with abundant mineral resources and a still-developing industrial sector. As a result, the country is heavily dependent on its mineral revenues, and, at present, cheap energy offers a competitive advantage to the industrial sector. Knowing that cheap energy results in wasted energy resources, the government introduced the Law on Energy Savings and Energy Conservation to promote energy efficiency practices in the country. In light of these recent changes, this report provides an analysis of the existing conditions in Kazakhstan for the promotion of Energy Efficiency policies in the Industrial sector, and policy recommendations to foster these practices within the economy and the nation.
