Implementing Climate Budgeting in Buenos Aires: Leveraging AI Tools for Success
This project with the City of Buenos Aires will support the development and implementation of a climate budget tagging system that integrates climate objectives into the city’s financial planning while exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance transparency, efficiency, and impact. As Buenos Aires builds on its 15-year legacy of leadership in urban climate action and participation in global networks like C40 and ICLEI, this initiative seeks to institutionalize climate budgeting as a key governance tool for tracking and optimizing climate-related expenditures.
The project will assess the city’s current progress and identify the institutional, technical, and financial requirements for effective climate budget implementation within agencies such as the Climate Change Cabinet, the Ministry of Finance, and the Undersecretariat of Environment. The Capstone will explore how AI-based tools can automate data classification, improve monitoring accuracy, and provide dynamic visualization of climate spending—making climate governance more data-driven and accountable.
