Improving Water Access in Rural Chiapas
The state of Chiapas is one of the poorest regions in Mexico having minimal basic infrastructure and very limited services. For the first year of his administration, the newly elected Governor of Chiapas, inaugurated in December 2012, began working with his transition team to identify and prioritize investments in basic infrastructure to help alleviate poverty in the most cost-effective way. Working closely with the transition team, the SIPA team identified water as the main focal point for the administration’s agenda. The team’s report analyzes the issues around water access and provides recommendations on how the government can improve access to clean and safe water resources.
