Initiatives to Reach a Sustainable "Living Wage" and Fair Labor Standards in Cambodia's Garment Sector
Workers United is a North-American union that represents apparel and textile workers in the US and Canada and provides support to workers employed abroad throughout the supply chains of major US apparel brands and retailers. Although working conditions and wages have recently improved in Cambodia due to government and private interventions, many workers, especially women, continue to be vulnerable to inadequate working conditions and malnutrition. A team of SIPA students was asked to review the recent interventions and provide recommendations on how best to promote sustainable development in Cambodia’s garment sector through cooperation among factories, labor unions, retailers and government agencies.
