Spring 2015

This SIPA Workshop team researched innovative approaches to scaling up access to quality education in Vietnam and Zambia for the Millions Learning Project. The Millions Learning Project is a Center for Universal Education initiative that seeks to identify policies and programs that have improved learning for large numbers of children in low and middle-income countries. Through desk research, secondary data analysis, interviews, focus groups, and classroom observations, the SIPA team contributed two case studies for inclusion in the broader Millions Learning report. In Zambia, the team researched Lesson Study, a Japanese approach to teacher professional development that emphasizes collaborative, peer-to-peer learning. In Vietnam, the team researched the Primary Education for Disadvantaged Children (PEDC) Project, the School Education Quality Assurance Program (SEQAP), and the Vietnam Escuela Nueva (New School) Model. Both case studies illustrate the countries' impressive strides towards increasing access, quality, and equity of education.
