New Approaches to Training for Gender Equality
The UN Women Training Centre in Santo Domingo was established to serve as the UN leading center of excellence in training for gender equality. The Centre provides training for gender equality and women’s empowerment to UN Women staff, UN agencies, government, civil society and partners. The gender capacity-development programs range from basic and introductory levels to specialized and advanced levels for diverse audiences with different backgrounds. A team of SIPA students partnered with the UN Women Training Centre to augment the Centre’s evidence base for knowledge-sharing and to map training for gender equality taking place across the United Nations system, with the purpose of identifying the current trends, needs and challenges in this area. The team conducted a literature review covering topics such as empowerment, feminist pedagogy, online vs. face-to-face learning and evaluation of training. Building on knowledge from the literature the team observed and participated in different trainings and learning opportunities to deliver recommendations to the client.
