GiveDirectly is an international non-profit organization that focuses exclusively on the provision of unconditional cash grants to poor households. Its model enables transparent and efficient delivery of transfers by leveraging mobile banking technology and ensures that the poor themselves decide how best to allocate resources. GiveDirectly aims to have a transformative impact on the philanthropic sector by designating cash transfers as the benchmark against which other aid interventions are measured. This project provides an assessment of a possible expansion of the cash transfer model to Uganda, Tanzania, Pakistan and the Philippines by analyzing the socioeconomic and political environment in each country including the extent of the current mobile banking industry and existing government poverty reduction programs.
