Re-Thinking Governmental Assistance in Mexico's Indigenous Education

Historically, basic education quality in Mexico has been deficient. The Secretary of Social Development created the “Oportunidades” program to promote the low level of attendance in schools. Moreover, the Secretary of Public Education created a program in 2001 “Programa Escuelas de Calidad” to improve learning results especially in marginalized zones. The objective of this workshop was to analyze the feasibility of implementing both projects, in alliance, in Chiapas.
