Strengthening Capacity Through Value Chain Analyses and Industrial Policy in Rwanda

Upon request from Rwanda’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the East West Management Institute (EWMI), SIPA team conducted a value chain analysis of maize production in Rwanda to create visibility of the current ‘end-to‐end’ maize value chain, to describe the constraints limiting the development of the maize industry and to suggest recommendations to address these. Maize was selected as the priority crop because it is a key grain ensuring food security in Sub-Saharan Africa and because its production has increased significantly over the last few years.
