Personal Details
Frederic de Mariz, PhD teaches classes in Sustainable Finance, Financial Innovation and Impact Investing. He is Brandmeyer Fellow for Impact and Sustainable Investing. He has authored or co-authored several books and academic articles on banking, financial innovation and sustainable finance. Mr de Mariz has also taught at Sciences Po.
Mr. de Mariz is Head of Sustainable Finance at UBS for Latin America. In his capacity as investment banker, he advises corporate clients on best practices in sustainability and develops innovative financial instruments to direct capital for climate transition and other development targets. Under his leadership, his group became the leader in structuring labelled bonds in Brazil and launched the first green equity in the Americas. He also spearheaded several initiatives related to diversity. Prior to that, Mr. de Mariz was the head of the Financial Institutions group. He has more than 20 years of experience in investment banking and sustainability in London, New York, Mexico City and São Paulo, with senior positions at UBS, JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs.
He participates actively in industry forums. He is a member of the Brazilian Capital Markets Association (Anbima) and the sustainability committee of the Brazilian Corporate Governance Institute (IGBC). He is an independent member of the sustainability committees of Brazilian food company Wickbold and Brazilian water company Sabesp - the second largest water company globally. He was previously an advisor to two microfinance institutions in Brazil. He regularly mentors young entrepreneurs, especially in emerging markets.
