Forecasting the Future of Internet Governance

Semester

Spring 2026

The World Economic Forum is the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation. It provides a global, impartial and not-for-profit platform for meaningful connection between stakeholders to establish trust and build initiatives for cooperation and progress. The Forum’s commitment to facilitating progress on systemic challenges is taken forward through its 11 Centres, each applying the institution’s unique combination of impact methods to drive holistic efforts.

Within the Forum, the Centre for AI Excellence (CAIE), advances the responsible use of AI, data, and digital technologies to serve society, drive industry transformation, and prepare countries and regions for the intelligent era. The CAIE seeks an analysis of the global technology governance field following the Global Digital Compact and WSIS+20. This analysis will include descriptions of the perspective of key stakeholders in the debate over global governance and an assessment of next steps following the developments of 2025. This analysis will also examine the potential economic impact of global technology governance as well as assess the likely impact on innovation and access to key technologies (including internet and AI) globally.
